The National Surf Circuit (CNS) moves to Palo Seco de Parrita Jan 16th and 17th

Second CNS Tournament For the first time ever, the Circuito Nacional de Surf DayStar (CNS), will have a tournament at the beach Palo Seco de Parrita, which will take place on January 16 and 17. Called the Torneo LimeCoral, this will be the second date of the 2009-2010 season, and it will be a 4-star event awarding 1,500 points to the winners in each category. Palo Seco de Parrita is one of the two new beaches in the Circuito — the other being Cocoles in Limon, which is the next date.

Palo Seco de Parrita is a beach break that is often welcoming surges during the year, including the one expected during Torneo LimeCoral. The contest, which will take place in front of the facilities of Aparta-Hotel La Isla, is set to unite the best surfers from the zones of Parrita, Esterillos and Quepos, who may not often frequent the Circuito championship.

For this date, the Municipality of Parrita contributed a generous amount towards the Circuito DayStar, with organization towards tourism in the zone frequented by surfers and non-surfers both.

In agreement with Hannia Sibaja of the Municipality, there has been an order for the Commission of Support for the Torneo LimeCoral, including the maintenance of about 1,000 vehicles expected. In addition, the public will be able to participate in different activities during the Circuito, including volleyball and beach soccer for mini-championships. There will also be food and drinks for sale on the beach, and access to the bar and restaurant at Aparta-Hotel La Isla.

For those that don't know, Palo Seco is a beach that is about 30 minutes south of Jaco Beach (towards Hermosa Beach and Quepos) and is located right before the town of Parrita.

From what I have heard, the CNS is expecting a good turnout for this tournament and there is supposed to be all the necessary services on site and ample parking. If you're in town and like surf, definitely go check it out, Palo Seco is a beautiful and mostly untouched beach that you will surely not be disappointed in seeing!

We'll have news, photos and updates on the tournament results as the come in, stay tuned!

Costa Rica's Circuito Nacional Opens Jaco's Copa Mango

Female Grommets Surfers photo by Randall OrtegaEverything is in place for the 10th edition of the Circuito Nacional DayStar, presented by LimeCarol. Called the Copa Mango, this year's first date will begin Saturday, December 19, and is categorized with 4 Stars — or 1,500 points to the winner in each of the 15 divisions. Scheduled to take place in front of DayStar's Hotel Bahia Encantada, this date will unite the best surfers in the country for the beginning of a six month journey that will see the Circuito visiting seven beaches around the country.

The last two times the Copa Mango went off in Jaco, in 2008 and 2009, the winners were Germaine "Nino" Myrie (Puerto Viejo) and Jason Torres (Jaco). Torres, however, may not even appear for this Circuito date as he has plans to surf at the Asociacion of Latinamericana Surfing (ALAS) Latin Pro contest in El Salvador, which happens to coincide with the Copa Mango.

"I'm not sure yet if I will be able to run the whole Circuit. It is time for me to leave and compete outside the country where some more important dates are realized," affirmed Torres, who has not been able to obtain a Costa Rica national title after coming close with two subchampionships in three years.

In fact, several Tico surfers may be absent due to that ALAS appointment, opening the way for an interesting start to the Circuito Nacional championship rankings. Several new faces may be standing in the winners podium on Sunday, December 20.
